# The District Darlings Take NYFW

- Fashion, Lifestyle

NYFW is the biggest fashion event in the country and one of four major fashion weeks in the world.  The “Big 4” are New York, Paris, London and Milan.  The September NYFW showcases the SS17 season and the February is all about Fall and Winter fashion.

Admission to shows at New York Fashion Week is typically reserved for those in the fashion industry, with specific events by invitation only.  Chelsea and I were SO honored when we received our invitation and immediately started planning our trip to NY!

So much prep goes into it, from travel arrangements to personal prep and every step of the way made us even more excited.

Normally we drive to NY, it’s only around 4 hours, but I travel so much for work I just didn’t feel like driving so we thought it would be fun to go on one of the double-decker buses from DC to NY!  We ended up choosing the MegaBus (guys, our return trip was only $9 each!).  It’s a double-decker bus with wifi, outlets, and a panoramic view if you sit in the front.  We had to sit in the front row heading into NY because of the views so we booked early enough to reserve those seats.  Coming back to DC didn’t matter so much because we see this view everyday so we booked our tickets for the return without reserving our specific seat, and that worked totally fine.

Personal prep was just fun girly things: manicures, facials, hair conditioning masks, those things.  We love the eye masks from Sephora and Origins charcoal face mask is a must.  Our cousin told us about that last year and I’m so glad she did!  We both planned on having our legs out so we really wanted to go to our favorite wax studio, Cera Wax Studio, in Bethesda but thanks to our beach trip, our sunburn decided to peel.  Not the best time to get your legs waxed…

I had to stop in at Immortal Beloved in DC to see Erin.  She added partial highlights to my roots and glazed my blonde to take out any brassiness that started to show since my last visit.  She’s phenomenal.  To take my hair from brown-black to blonde with some hidden streaks so light they’re almost white, yea, she’s a coloring genius.  Plus Immortal Beloved is the cutest salon ever and everyone there is so chill, it’s a great environment.

For our outfits we decided on our custom patched jean jackets (our post on those is here if you missed it!) and dresses.  We both wore maroon shoes and it was fun to show how we can take jean jackets, dresses, and maroon shoes and style it so differently.

Chelsea wore a crème and nude dress that she dressed down with her jean jacket and velvet sneakers from Zara.  Guys, velvet is in for Fall.  It was really way too hot to wear it in our full outfits so we picked ways to accessorize with it.

I took a dress you’d normally wear to go out with a plunging neckline and paired it with my jean jacket to dress it down and give it more of a street style.  I found these heels from Kendall and Kylie’s new collection and I decided on staying in the same color palette throughout to keep my separates matching.  I wore my velvet in my choker.  Chokers are perfect for plunging necklines because it brings the eye up and doesn’t make everything look so open.

Jean jackets and maroon madness was all over fashion week and those are two things we loved so definitely excited to style them for fall!

We were invited by KYBOE! and I have to say, the KYBOE! crew was so much fun.  Down-to-Earth and made sure everyone was having a great time from their fashion show, their exclusive brunch, their bowling party, and their after-after party at Avenue.  It was turned all the way up from their 1:00 runway show on.  Everyone got a KYBOE! watch which comes in 180 different colors so you can style it in different ways and it’s definitely got that menswear style that’s so in right now with a really large face.  #BiggerIsBetter is their hashtag and they did the entire day BIG.  You can opt for a smaller face watch, which Chelsea did because her wrist is smaller, or choose a larger size.

The show was at Skylight Moynihan Station like many of the other NYFW shows.  We had our first paparazzi moment when we showed up and it was fabulous.  There were dozens of photographers and they were taking pictures of US!  Telling us to stand here, stand there, put our arms down, show the back of our jacket… very cool experience.

There were two runways for the KYBOE! show.  The first was a long mechanical runway down the center.  The watches came around on this while the models walked around the mechanical runway on an actual runway.  They matched their outfits to their watches and showed both men and women styling them.

After the show we were guests of the super chill CEO at his restaurant LAVO for an exclusive brunch.  We sat at our table with Hanna Beth from House of DVF Season 2.  She’s as cool in person as she is on the show.  There was so much food (chicken parmesan, pasta, Caesar salads, garlic parmesan fries, tuna tartar, and it went on) and just as many drinks.  The atmosphere was club-like with the music and everyone was having such a great time.  I’ve never been to a more live brunch at 4 in the afternoon as the LAVO x KYBOE! brunch.  It was the best.  They kept the party going and we all celebrated KYBOE! from LAVO, to bowling at Lucky Strike Manhattan, to an after-after party at Avenue.

The KYBOE! crew showed us such a great time at NYFW filled with both fun and fashion.  They definitely proved to us that BIGGER IS BETTER, Darlings!
