How to Pack from Bed

- Collaborators, Lifestyle

I travel a lot.  In the last five months alone I’ve been to four different countries and 15 different cities around the world.  One thing I’ve learned, is that planning ahead can make a huge difference between a good trip and a great trip, and this includes packing correctly.  But who has time to itemize their suitcase?  Not only do I travel, but I still have a full-time job and my blog is an official LLC so I’m a business owner too.  So I get it.  Packing tends to get pushed pretty close to the date of departure.  After the many miles, I’ve finally found a way to pack from bed – it’s Rent the Runway.

I’ve been a Rent the Runway Unlimited subscriber for a few years now and have definitely put it to use.  Traveling to China in January will call for a completely different wardrobe from Greece in the Spring.  Our one-bedroom Georgetown apartment doesn’t even fit a dining table let alone a wardrobe large enough for the different climates around the world.  Using Rent the Runway, I’ve been able to optimize my space in our apartment, and time preparing for upcoming trips.

How It Works

With the monthly Unlimited subscription, you rent up to four pieces at a time and then switch them out as often as you want.  They even ship the pieces directly to you on the next business day if you order before noon!  Shipping, insurance, and dry-cleaning are all included in your subscription.  You just choose which four items you want, from dresses for Iceland, sweaters for Beijing, or belt bags for London, either on the app or in-store and they ship it right to your door.  When you get back from your trip, or just finish wearing your new designer dress to work, ship it back or drop it off at one of their locations and you’re ready to pick your next four items.  Rent the Runway has had me covered for every trip.  Especially this last one in Europe where I realized just how easy they made packing for me.

So how can you pack for a trip from bed?

The Rent the Runway app allows you to make lists for your different needs.  I have a general list for everyday pieces, one for work trips, and then before each trip I create one too.  Before Europe, I scrolled through the app whenever I had a chance and would “heart” pieces I liked as options for the trip.  This was often in bed right before I fell asleep or in the morning instead of scrolling through Instagram.  I was packing my suitcase from bed.  The week before, I looked through those favorite items I added to my Europe list and made my final selections.  Once they were delivered, bag and all went right into my suitcase.

Planning my outfits has always been a fun part of trip prep.  It’s also pretty stressful though when you had to physically sort through your closet to pack for a different season or days with different weather throughout.  London was beautiful and 60 degrees during the day and windy and 40 at night.  Rent the Runway made it so much easier for me to pack.  Not only because it meant I didn’t have to go in storage for a coat!  I planned my trip with just the click of a button from the comfort of my bed.
