Before I met Dr. Naz, I decided I needed to stop smiling in 2019 to prevent wrinkles. I had been to other plastic surgeons for fillers and had a mixed bag of results – some fillers worked great and other I felt like I spent a lot of money for no visible result. Dr. Naz’s office at Sanctuary Cosmetics in Mclean is beautiful. It gave me the feeling as soon as I walked in that if they care enough to take the time to make sure the office looks great, they’ll care enough to take the time to make sure you look great too. From a shelf brimming with awards, a state-certified operating room right in the office, and a separate waiting room for pre-procedure numbing, Sanctuary Cosmetics gives you a comfort that few other facilities do.
My main reason for filler is preventative aging. I have a lot to smile about but the result it has on my face, especially when I wear makeup and it can settle into fine lines, was not my favorite. I wanted to fill my existing lines and then use skincare, better than what I used in my 20s, to slow the process as I age. Lips also lose volume as you get older so I wanted to add a very subtle and natural plumping back into mine.
In our consultation, we talked through what I was looking for and she explained facial contouring using fillers and how that would be the best option to give me the natural look I wanted, in the most cost-effective way. I am so glad I listened to her expert advice!
We did filler in 3 areas: lips, smile lines and cheeks. The filler in the cheek was to lift my smile lines and it did so better and with a more smooth and natural appearance than filler in the folds alone. We did very slight, not even a full vial, of filler in the lip to add back any loss of volume and asymmetry. Dr. Naz is an expert injector and after she did my lips I was not surprised at all that she won the title of DC “Lip Queen”. I’ve done filler before but her precision and knowledge definitely showed. I was comfortable with her putting a needle in my face and that is saying a lot. Trust like that is hard to come by.
She also pointed out something I had never noticed. The muscle in my jawline was so tight that it was squaring my jaw, similar to what happens to people who grind their teeth at night. She recommended botox to relax the muscle and give me back my natural contour to my jaw. I. WAS. SHOCKED. Botox takes a couple days to see the full effects unlike filler so it wasn’t immediate but when they started showing, I loved it. My jawline was more relaxed, rounded and defined. I never noticed how tight it always was until after once the tightness was released. It was a constant state of pain until she recommended the botox so not only did it help aesthetically, it also alleviated a pain I didn’t even realize I had. I am so grateful to Dr. Naz for noticing and recommending that to me!
If you’ve learned nothing else from this post, let it be this: fillers and botox can be more than just a cosmetic adjustment if you go to the right physician. My fillers are subtle and have given me the best line of defense to slow down the aging process. My botox got rid of a pain I didn’t even realize I had. Dr. Naz is a certified plastic surgeon, not just your standard med spa injector. She spent years studying and perfecting her craft and her confidence and the advice she gives is something you absolutely want when someone is working on something as delicate as your face (or any part of your body).
